European Music Festival Collaboration
Silence Festival is part of an European collaboration of small and mid-size music festivals. The Project is called Festivallinks and it brings together five festivals from all corners of Europe.
The Festivallinks is funded by the European Commission’s Creative Europe programme.
Kick Off Conference in Budapest
The Festivallinks project started with a conference and concerts in Budapest on 3rd-5th of October 2018. The programme was hosted bu BMC - Budapest Music Center. During the conference all the project partners presented their festivals both in a meeting room and in a concert hall. Silence Festival was represented by artistic director Mikko Perkola and executive producer Jonna Leppänen in the meeting room. In the corcers hall Silence had the privilege to start the concert series with Särestö’s mind concert by Mikko Perkola, Anni Elif Egecioglu and Imogen Huzel. The concert was build around a scene from Seasons of Silence concert which took place in Särestöniemi Museum in June 2018. Silence organisation facilitates new multi-disciplinary collaborations and creates platforms for artistic work. The concert was supported by Finnagora and Telepart project.
Exchange during 2019-2020
The Festivallinks project is based on sharing the best practices. Artists and artistic concepts from the partner festivals will visit the other festivals during 2019-2020. Also the directors and the administrative staff will exchange their best practices about festival management and especially about audience development. All the festival want to reach new audiences and get to know the current audiences better.
Festivallinks collaboration Yhdessä Villassa / Together at Villa by Marieke Hopman and Onni Toivonen was created and performed at Silence Festival 2019.
The Festivallinks is a 2-years project and administrated by LUSTR organisation in the Netherlands. It started with an initiative by a violinist Michael Gieler who wanted to establish a network of music festivals which would benefit from mutual exchange on artistic, productional and audience development levels.
Silence Festival is one of the 5 partner festivals in the project. Silence has common features with all the other partners: Sorru in Musica is also a so called village festival. It takes place annually in the villages of Corsica Island (FR). Surru is lead by a violinist Bertnard Carvera. International Bach Festival (IBF) is surrounded by a beautiful nature in Gran Canaria Island (ES). The festival is founded and lead by Michael Gieler. Varna Summer Festivall attracts people of all ages. Varna Summer is organised by the city of Varna (BG). Contemporary music with it’s roots in the classical tradition connects Silence Festival and Bach Festival Dordrech. The biannual festival is lead by an effective pair of women Pauline Koning and Marieke Hopman.
