The title of the second concert in the Seasons of Silence cross-art series is Kaamos, “The Polar Night”. This mid-winter blend of different art forms addresses the most mysterious and most richly-hued period in the annual artic round. In a programme designed to appeal to a myriad senses, the audience accompany representatives of various arts through snowy Särestö, savouring and listening to the world around them, both outside and inside the Särestö Gallery and Studio.
Creating the holistic Särestö work of art are aerial acrobat Saara Ahola, jugglers Sakari Männistö and Peter Åberg (Sweden), vocal artist Agnes Hvizdalek (Austria), percussionists Janne Tuomi and Mikael Heikkilä, and sound designer Tuomas Skopa. The lighting design is by Riikka Vuorenmaa, and the overall artistic planning by circus artist Henna Kaikula and clarinettist Lauri Sallinen.
Saara Ahola has been seen in recent years at the in Cirkus Cirkör and Östgöta Teatern productions in Sweden. A versatile, brilliant artiste, she readily captivates her audience. Charismatic Sakari Männistö, a juggler from Rovaniemi now living in London, has appeared in a variety of contemporary circus productions. He has also done many works uniting different art forms and has, for example, been the soloist with a chamber orchestra. Peter Åberg is a juggler, musician and acrobat. Music is reflected in his juggling, and he has developed a device that generates soundscapes in the juggler’s hands.
Percussionists Janne Tuomi and Mikael Heikkilä are dynamic, multitalented personalities and pillars of strength in the Osuma percussion ensemble and others. Agnes Hvizdalek, who comes from Vienna, specialises in abstract vocal art exploiting the human voice in an amazing number of ways. She is widely involved in the European experimental and improvised music field and has taken part in numerous cross-art projects. Tuomas Skopa is a multi-skilled sound designer working with music, cinema and performing art and is right now finalising our January arts experience.
